Tweed Bar: Where NSW Meets Queensland
This camera looks over the Tweed River bar, where the river meets the Coral Sea right on the New South Wales/Queensland border. The training walls built to stabilise the river entrance for boat traffic also shape the swell as it wraps in, producing a punchy right-hander on the southern side that's popular with bodyboarders — and for anyone heading out on the water, it's a genuinely useful way to check bar conditions before crossing.
Immediately south sits Duranbah Beach — known locally as "D-Bah" — a short but internationally rated beach break that's hosted world tour surfing events and sits just around the corner from Snapper Rocks, home break of several Australian world champions. Climb the headland above and you'll cross from NSW into Queensland, and a different time zone, in a few dozen steps.
