Cronulla: Sydney's Only Beach on the Train Line
Cronulla holds a small piece of Sydney trivia: it's the only ocean beach in the city you can reach directly by train, which has made it a magnet for surfers without a car for generations. It's actually a chain of beaches — North Cronulla, Cronulla, Elouera and Wanda run into one another along the peninsula — so there's usually a bank working somewhere along the strip even when one section is quiet.
At the northern end, Cronulla Point picks up south swells and can produce a solid right-hander when the beach break is closed out. The suburb has a long, strongly local surf identity, and this stream covers the main beach so you can scan the swell and wind before heading down.
